In pursuit of cheap political points.

Oh this is clutch.

For three years at least, the governor of Michigan, a god fearing Democrat, has ordered flags flown at half-mast to honor soldiers killed in Iraq.

Her opponent in the next election, Dick DeVos, a troop-hating Republican, thinks that's bad idea; or, at the very least, he's willing to pander to any retards who think that it "cheapens the gesture" when the flag is lowered for anyone other than a VIP. Here is what Dick said:
"Dick would take a more literal approach," DeVos campaign spokesman John Truscott said. "While he certainly believes that honoring veterans who have given their lives is extremely important, lowering the flag has typically been reserved for heads of state."
