By now you've all heard that the leader of the free world mocked a blind reporter during his press conference yesterday:
THE PRESIDENT: Yes, Peter. Are you going to ask that question with shades on?
Q I can take them off.
THE PRESIDENT: I’m interested in the shade look, seriously.
Q All right, I’ll keep it, then.
THE PRESIDENT: For the viewers, there’s no sun. (Laughter.)
Q I guess it depends on your perspective. (Laughter.)
THE PRESIDENT: Touche. (Laughter.)
To be fair, the president probably didn't know the guy was hard of seeing. Still, his needless display of masculinity, as if he were a traffic cop upbraiding a long-haired violater, makes him look like a total buffoon.
Anyway, why does it matter to Bush if a guy wants to wear sunglasses at an outdoor press event? Why should he take them off? Does Bush get nervous when he can't look into a guy's soul?
