Club's membership "not my business,'" Governor says

Report

Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. [Maryland] addressed criticism yesterday of a fund-raiser he hosted at an all-white country club by saying its membership is "not my business," and he complained of a "double standard" because there was no outcry when prominent Democrats held events there

What a blunder. Probably an innocent blunder, but a blunder all the same. The real problem is this was a perfect opportunity to admit a mistake and condemn the club's policy, but instead Governor Erhrlich takes the GWB approach ("Mistakes? Me? Sorry, can't think of any.") and equivocates. What a putz.
