"Unfortunately."
WALTERS: If a person does not accept Jesus Christ as his savior, does he go to hell?
TED HAGGARD (President, National Association of Evangelicals): Yes
WALTERS: What if the God is not Jesus Christ? What if it's a different God? Do they go to hell?
HAGGARD: I think so. Unfortunately.
It's stuff like this that fans my fears about the born-again president and his base off holy rollers and Christmas demagogues. They think we're damned. And that's not something I can shrug off easily. It may be "their doctrine," but it's a false and hateful doctrine, and one that certainly forms ominous anti-Jewish clouds across their little mental skies.
Whatever damages Christianity also dissipates those clouds. Something to remember the next time you see something on Cross Currents or Serendez arguing the we Jews are better off when evangelical Christianity is more robust.
