After all, a few months ago she wrote a whole long CrossCurrents (Jewish) post on Terry Schavio full of teeth gnashing and hair pulling over the sad state of our culture. "While Terri Schiavo is dying, G-d is in Heaven, judging," she wailed.
We thought for sure she'd have something equally sensitive to say about the Federal agency that left perhaps 50,000 people to starve in NOLA, and continues to lie about it to this day.
Well, we were wrong
In response to an email I sent to Toby about the Katrina lies I have been collecting, she wrote:
I didn't vote for the incompetent and clueless administration of Louisiana or the mayor of New Orleans. I'm registered to vote in Florida. FEMA is not supposed to be the first responder. We have hurricanes in FL all the time, four last year. Usually FEMA shows up about three days after the storm, starts setting up offices and really gets into gear about a week, ten days after the hurricane. First responders are local and state responsibility, acc to FEMA plans. Don't know why anyone thinks differently, except that the usual suspects are using human misery and the sheer incompetence of the LA govt to bash Bush, yawn, what else is new. Personally I think he started the whole hurricane by breathing too hard on his exercise bike. You can quote me, but only if you quote this entire paragraph.That's right Toby. You didn't vote for the Mayor or the Governor, who we agree did a bad job, but you did vote for the incompetent and clueless president of the United States who
1 - couldn't anticipate that the levees might break, and lacked the brains to realize that admitting this on TV might be a bad move
2 - appointed someone who used to run horse shows to lead FEMA
3 - appointed his personal event planner as FEMA's Deputy Director
4 - Still hasn't fired Chertoff for saying on Meet the Press that the Department of Homeland Security developed their response to Katrina based on a newspaper that doesn't exist
5 - Still hasn't fired Chertoff or Brown for being unaware of the misery in the Convention Center for 5 days
6 - JOKED ABOUT TRENT LOTT'S HOUSE on his first stop in Mobile.
7 - Couldn't be bothered to leave his vacation house UNTIL WEDNESDAY
...and the list just goes on and on.
In fact, Toby, not only did you vote for him, but you continue to defend him by deflecting blame on to other elected officials, officials who (surprise!) are Democrats. In fact, you've done in on my own comment threads at least three times. Are you able to say what all decent people are saying? Are you able to say, "The mayor and the governor performed badly, but so did FEMA and the DHS - but FEMA and the DHS seem unable to stop lying about it." Or is only the mayor and governor, democrats both, who deserve any blame?
Bush is a joke. And the tiny, infinitesimal bit of silver lining on the very large, very horrible cloud that is NOLA is that many good, kind, sensitive people who've been hoodwinked are finally starting to see exactly what sort of clueless, selfish, jerks are running this country.
