Mike DeWine is a Republican running for Senator in Ohio and, in one of his campaign ads, he made use of one of the most famous and heartrendering images of all time: The burning World Trade Center.
Only - whoops! - it turns out that what the ad really shows is a picture of the World Trade Center before the attacks. The smoke shown rising from one tower was, in fact, added by a graphic artist to make the picture look more dramatic.
What? DeWine couldn't get reproduction rights to a real picture of the disaster? Or did he just think (as Jon Stewart put it) that the tragedy needed a little more oomph?
