Yesterday the Jewish community, and the world, lost a great Rabbi.
Rabbi Zelik Epstein was one of the last Rabbis educated in European Yeshivos. A contemporary of R' Moshe and R' Yaakov, he stood for clarity and truth above politics.
According to what I have heard and seen Wikipedia as well, R' Zelik wrote to R' Elyashiv in consternation regarding the ban of "The Making of a Gadol". R' Zelik also expressed disdain over the banning of Lipa's music and Slifkin's books. As far as I know, R Zelik strongly supported victims of sexual abuse and vehemently opposed any "alleged""cover-ups.
In short, R' Zelik represented much of what we represent. Honesty, transparency, Torah and one-size-does-not-fit-all Judaism.
He will be missed.
