One of my correspondents has sent me this - a video depicting Jewish life in Munkatch c 1933.
I'll note for the hell of it, that this video might have been shot in Brooklyn last week. The style of clothing hasn't changed, and the disdain for secular Jews is apparent. On the film, someone wags his finger like Bill Clinton denying a sexual relationship with an intern, as he exhorts American Jews living 5000 miles away to keep the shabbos. Meanwhile, in what I take to be his own neighborhood, secular Jews dance merrily to what sounds like a Hasidic hymm.
Quite bizarre.
