ALABAMA: THE NATION'S LAUGHINGSTOCK

We're cautioned that it's bad manners to poke fun at the NASCAR/Jesus loving South. They're not stupid. They're not backwards. They're not bigots. Or so we're told.

So let's ask the sensitivity czars: What is the approriate reaction when an entire state decides that they are stupid, backwards, bigots?

We're talking, of course, about Alabama, where the good, pitch-fork-toting citizens were given the chance to remove language mandating racial segregation from the state Constitution. And said "NO!"

Here are some of the words the Alabamaniacs voted to keep in their Constitution:

Separate schools shall be provided for white and colored children, and no child of either race shall be permitted to attend a school of the other race.

Doesn't Alabama sound like a darling place to raise a family? Let's hope they don't think Jews are a race.
