Sex Abuse Scandal

A guest post by JS:

Last night, WPIX (Channel 11 in the NY area) featured the following story to head up their 10PM newscast on the sex abuse scandal in the Orthodox Jewish community:

It seems something may be happening today. Perhaps Dov Hikind will be responding to the subpoenas he received, ordering him to turn over information to the police about the sex abuse victims who have confided in him. See here, here, and here.

Personally, I think he should turn them over to the police. I don't think these matters should be handled by the community. Sexual abuse is far too serious to be left to a committee. But nonetheless, the Orthodox Jewish community has clearly shown a complete inability to handle this internally in an appropriate manner.

Turn them over. Prosecute them. Punish the guilty. Exonerate the innocent. Make it known that this behavior will not be tolerated.
