The Rav and the Red Sox

The local smart people have been chewing over the fact that the Rav rooted for the Red Sox. I have a few things to add to the discussion:

1: Big flipping deal. It tells you how deeply we've become buried in BHM [*] culture if we think its strange or unusual for a man, even a man who happens to be a genius and a godol b'torah, to be mildly interested in sports (No one says the Rav was a fanatic)

2: The protagonist of Potok's In the Beginning, David Luria, attends YU, and his rebbe, say those in the know, is a dead ringer for the Rav. Though the character isn't a citizen of RedSox nation, he does pepper his language with baseball metaphors. When a student gives a good answer he growls, "A single, Luria, that was a single."

3: Harav Hagaon Chaim Pinchas Scheinberg Shlita is a Yankee fan. I know this from first-hand experience and observation. I wonder if he and the Rav ever trash talked each other?
