Is George Bush Disingenuous?

President Bush has publicly declared that we are fighting the decisive ideological struggle of our era, He says that "the safety of America depends on the outcome of the battle in the streets of Baghdad." Is this true? Maybe, but the president doesn't believe it.

If the President really thinks that the war with Bin Ladin will “determine the destiny of millions across the world" he'd send more troops to Iraq. He'd increase our armed forces- with a draft if there were insufficient volunteers. He'd raise taxes to pay for it all, and he'd call on every American to make sacrifices. As Jon Stewart, a great American, put it, "We'd World War II this thing."

That fact that he has done none of these things, and, instead, trots out the bogeyman Bin Ladin when an election is imminent, suggests that when the president talks about cosmic struggles he is only trying to win votes by scaring us.
