Pro-Israel? or pro Israel's destruction?
Pastor John Hagee is described as one of the 20 most influential evangelical leaders in America. Officially, he is a great friend of Israel. His mega church donates stupendous sums to organizations like Nefesh b'Nefesh. Daniel Lapin adores him (natch) and Hagee has been invited to address AIPAC.
Hagee's mega church, also hosts an annual "Night to Honor Israel," an evening described as "packed with outstanding speakers and also music, with all of the focus being on support for Israel and the Jewish people."
Unfortunately, his whole pro-Israel routine is a disgusting scam. What Hagee really wants, what he really hopes for with each passing day, is the destruction of Israel and the casting of all Jews into a "lake of fire burning with brimstone." In his speeches he spells it all out. According to Sarah Posner, Hagee often argues that a strike against Iran will cause Arab nations to unite under Russia’s leadership, as outlined in chapters 38 and 39 of the Book of Ezekiel, leading to an “inferno [that] will explode across the Middle East, plunging the world toward Armageddon.”
That's his goal. That's his dream. Armageddon. Inferno. It's his reason for "supporting" Israel. What he wants, ultimately, is Jewish deaths.
And the terrible irony, as Matt beautifully puts it, is this: "John Hagee, who wants to see Israel adopt a hawkish foreign policy that he believes will result in its destruction at the hands of a Russo-Arab alliance is a friend of the Jews. By contrast, everyone who thinks a little pressure to make peace could wind up helping Israel in the long run is an anti-semite."
Insult to Injury Update: The Holocaust was all our fault. Don't believe me? Sorry, that's the gospel according to John Hagee
